Well folks, it’s that time of year again and the influenza and cold virus are hitting hard.

There are many ways to you can avoid getting or spreading the virus.

Fill yourself with vitamins and zinc.  Vitamin D is a big one that is going to help your immune system. Research shows that people with higher levels of Vitamin D were less susceptible to getting sick whereas Vitamin D deficient people had higher results of contracting the flu or a cold. Vitamin D can be taken in dietary supplements but can also be produced by sunlight and UVB tanning rays from sun beds. Find out more about how Vitamin D can help protect against the cold and flu virus here.

Wash your hands with soap and water often. Otherwise use alcohol based hand sanitizers. (even vodka on the hands kills germs!)

Vodka on the hands may kill germs but drinking vodka or other alcohol will significantly lower your immune system so tuck that stuff away for awhile!

cold fluCover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and use a tissue. Avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes.

Watch what your eating. Eating too much sugar, particularly fructose, and too many grains can lower your immune system. Consuming more protein can help build the immune system so try and eat more fish, eggs and yogurt this time of year.

Stay cold and flu free this winter!
