Step Into A Superior Float Experience and let go of all your daily stressors

What is it?

REST— (RESTRICTED ENVIROMENTAL STIMULATION THERAPY). The basic concept is that floating reduces external stimuli as much as possible to help the body achieve a natural restorative state. Without the intense stimulation of our modern environment we are able to experience the purest form of relaxation. Float Therapy has been shown to dramatically lower cortisol, the stress hormone, which causes anxiety, surpasses the immune system and contributes to weight gain. Stress is the number one cause of disease. When we relieve stress from our body and mind we get to experience being at optimum health. Float therapy is a simple, effective way to invest in your own health and happiness. Many people experience deep euphoria, some have out-of-body experiences and everyone leaves with a deep and lasting sense of relaxation.

Benefits of Floating

Getting rid of all sensory input allows the ‘constantly-working’ part of your brain to chill out for a second, allowing the creative, relaxed part of your brain to come out. Without the constant pressure of analyzing the world around you, your body lowers its levels of cortisol, the main chemical component of stress. Your brain also releases elevated levels of dopamine and endorphins, the neurotransmitters of happiness.

Floating is an incredible tool for Physical & Physiological recovery. An hour in this environment does wonders for your mind, body and central nervous system, Epsom salt itself is a natural anti-inflammatory. Without the persistent force of gravity pulling you down, chronic and acute pain are relieved, your muscles get to fully rest. Unlike lying on a mattress, lying in water allows blood to flow freely throughout your body, improving overall circulation. After an hour of weightlessness, your mind, joints and muscles will thank you! While enjoying this well-deserved break, your body suddenly has loads of extra resources allowing the body to focus on things like healing and resting.

Epsom Salt Benefits

Over one thousand pounds of epsom salts, which helps you float effortlessly on top of the water! Allowing for complete relaxation. When Epsom salt is dissolved in water, it releases magnesium and sulfate ions.

Many people, including some healthcare professionals, claim Epsom salt is therapeutic and use it as an alternative treatment for several conditions.

The idea is that these particles can be absorbed through your skin, providing you with magnesium and sulfates — which serve important bodily functions. Epsom salts alone can help aid in Sleep and Stress Reduction, Constipation, Exercise Performance / Recovery, and Reduced Pain and Swelling.

The Micron Filtration System is able to filter particles from the water to 1 micron in size and is FDA compliant for drinking water (Class 1 Filtration). Standard competitor pool and spa filter cartridges only filter to 20-30 microns and require regular cleaning.

Advanced AOP Sanitation Science

When germicidal UV light (UV-C) and ozone react the result is the production of hydroxyl radicals. This reaction is known as Advanced Oxidation Process, or AOP. Hydroxyl radicals (•OH) are the most powerful oxidation agents available, quickly destroying bacteria, viruses, pathogens and other contaminants that occur in water. Hydroxyl radicals also destroy chlorine resistant microorganisms, such as Cryptosporidium Parvum, Giardia and E.Coli.
AOP is dramatically more powerful than Chlorine and other sanitizers, and even more powerful than Ozone alone. In AOP systems, the highly unstable hydroxyl radicals react with dissolved waterborne contaminants in a series of strong oxidation reactions. This process happens almost instantaneously.

Active Ventilation

Our Float Suites come equipped with active ventilation for removing the humidity buildup and for fresh air inside of the float suite. This makes for a more comfortable float experience from start to finish.

“Floating is an opportunity to quiet my mind beyond what transcendental mediation can. I can maintain that level of meditation for longer periods when floating. When I come out ‘racing thoughts’ are gone and I can focus easily.” – Joe Rogan

Sleep makes you feel better, but its importance goes way beyond just boosting your mood or banishing under-eye circles. Adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle, it benefits your heart, weight, mind, and much more! Floating for just two hours a week for two weeks has been shown to greatly improve insomnia symptoms and quality of sleep. Begin a once-a-week float habit, and start sleeping better… What’s not to love about that?
Sensory Deprivation cuts off all the senses from the mind, removing it from the average barrage of stressful situations that most of us face each day. In the absence of distracting external stimuli, the mind enters a state of deep relaxation and meditation. The research shows how this state can actually be medicinal, as it has tremendous potential to reduce stress and thus the damaging symptoms that come with it. Floating away your Anxiety and Stress is a natural way to help aid in mental health.

Pain Relief Toggle—From migraines to arthritis to backaches, pain can unfortunately come in all shapes and sizes. Enhance your Creativity Toggle—Floatation therapy has been shown to reduce lactic acid and perceived pain levels after athletic training. Less muscle soreness means you can get back to your favorite activities sooner, and maybe even expand your repertoire of fun.
Improve relationships Toggle—Though not a lot of studies have been able to quantify this benefit of floating, more positive relationships are mentioned anecdotally throughout a wide array of float literature. Because floating reduces stress, you can have increased feelings of well-being. Many avid floaters find that their connections and interactions become more sensitive and positive and enhances awareness. What’s not to love about that?
Bonus Benefit Magnesium Toggle—Our Floats use Magnesium rich Epsom salt solution making the water extremely saturated. In fact, the water in a float tank has a relative density of about 1.25, making it essentially impossible not to float. Thousands of pounds of Epsom salt is dissolved in a couple hundred gallons of water, creating an almost zero gravity environment. This allows anyone to be able to float effortlessly, plus the usual benefits of using magnesium on the skin or soaking in magnesium bath apply. In particular, magnesium is known to help balance calcium levels in the body, reduce stress, and much more!

How long should I wait to float after a spray tan?—Floats can strip color,  we recommend you waiting 5-7 days to float after your spray tan.

Can I tan and float in the same day?—Yes. You can tan and float in the same day! It is recommended to tan after your float session when using a bronzer. We have showers available, you must shower prior to floating.

If using multiple services in one visit, what order should I use them in?—You can not Spray Tan before floating . The services you can enjoy prior to your float are our Luxury Spa & Sun services.

What if I recently dyed my hair?— For the benefit of your hair color and for our tanks, please wait until the water runs clear when you wash your hair before coming to float.

I just got a tattoo and/or body piercing should I float?—Salt + open wound = ouch!  We do supply Petroleum Jelly for any minor scratches, hang nails, etc.  We recommend waiting until your tattoo/body piercings are fully healed before stepping into our floats.

What is the water like?—At body temperature and thousands of pounds of Epsom salt, the water you’ll find yourself reclined in will have you losing track of where it ends and your body begins.

How long do I float?—For an hour – or more if you’d like – your mind is free of distraction and your body is free of gravity. The nothingness of that experience, is everything and more.

What happens when I float?—The outside world is now non-existent. Your focus can turn inwards where amazing things will happen.  It is an experience you have to try to fully understand!

Should I eat before my float?—Absolutely up to you. We recommend eating a light meal 30 minutes before your float, you don’t want to hear your stomach growling while you’re trying to relax.

Are you in complete darkness?—You can be!  Some floaters like to be in total darkness while others like to have some light. Our floats are equipped with an incredible fiber optic system, so you can float underneath a star like surface. We also have a colored light that illuminates the entire float space. Everything can be toggled on or off depending on your preference.

Is there a ‘right way’ to float?—No. There’s no right or wrong way to float. Keep the lights and/or fiber optics on or off. Listen to music or float in complete silence the choice is yours.

How does floating affect my skin?—Thousands of pounds of rich Epsom salt cradling your body will leave your skin silky and your hair smooth when you emerge. Unlike what you experience after a long bath, your skin will not be pruney! Epsom salt has a long list of skin benefits.

What do I need to bring?—Nothing. Just bring yourself and be ready to escape reality, if you would like to bring personal care items you are more than welcome but everything you need will be provided.

What kind of tanks do you have?—We use the Superior Float Tank brand. The same brand trusted by celebrities, famous musicians and sporting teams like the New England Patriots, Ohio State Buckeyes and other major professional & collegiate level universities. It delivers an unparalleled floating experience like none other, it also is made right here in the USA.

What should I do to prepare?—Nothing specific. Ideally avoid caffeine 60-90 minutes before you float. It also is recommended to not shave or wax right beforehand because the healing Espom salt might sting a bit.

What if I don’t know how to float?—No problem. The Epsom salt solution will make it impossible not to float. You couldn’t not float if you tried!

What can I expect?—Every float experience is different and unique to each user. But probably something you’ve never felt before.

Is it clean?—Extremely!  We are clean freaks at Totally Tan & Spa and we set out to find the float tank with the absolute best filtration system.  We have a 1 Micron Filtration System that is able to filter particles from the water 1 micron in size and FDA compliant for drinking water. Standard competitors use a 10-30 Micron filter system.  We have the first and only top rated filter made specifically for float tanks.

Age requirement for floating?—12 and older. People ages 12 and older may float, however we ask that all people younger than 16 have a parental guardian on site at all times. Ages 12-17 need parental consent.

Is floating ‘Legit’?—Yes! Floating has existed for over 50 years with numerous published studies and media coverage that has dived deep into the physical, spiritual, and intellectual benefits that you will experience. Floating is proven and you will be amazed how many benefits are linked to float therapy.

Is it weird?—It is different. Your body is in an environment it probably hasn’t been in since birth. So yes. It will take some getting used to. But what worth doing doesn’t.

What if I wear contacts?—You will most likely prefer to float without them, so be sure to bring your case and solution.

Can 2 (or more) people float in the same tank at once?—No. Our tanks are large enough but we believe floating is deeply personal and should be experienced alone.  Additionally MN regulations prohibit more than one person in a tank.

Can I float if I am pregnant?—Yes. With the okay from your physician or midwife, you may float into your second or third trimester. Many pregnant women find floating very beneficial, helping to relieve the joint pain and inflammation associated with carrying additional baby weight. Floating has been shown to reduce cortisol (stress) levels and boost endorphins which may help counteract the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy which can result in insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Many mothers-to-be in the tank experience an amazing bonding experience with their unborn baby this is known as the “mirror effect” where the baby rests peacefully in the womb while the mother rest in a similar womb-like environment.

Can I drown if I fall asleep while I’m floating?”—You will not drown in a float tank if you fall asleep. The density caused by the Epsom salt water makes you buoyant and difficult to turn over. If you do turn over, you will get salt water in your eyes and mouth which will wake you up. [/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Can I float if I’m menstruating?” _builder_version=”3.0.98″ open=”off”] Yes. Just follow the same protocol you would for a swimming pool

Should I wear a swimsuit?”—No, you float naked because you don’t want anything touching you. A swimsuit touching your skin is sensory input that can take away from the experience. You are more aware of everything in the tank, so any straps or elastics will be distracting. The tank rooms are private.

Are our Float Tanks Wheelchair-Accessible?—Totally Tan & Spa is wheelchair-accessible, including our float room, which is ADA Compliant. If you have the upper body strength to lift yourself out of your chair and into bed, for example, you will likely be able to lift yourself out of your chair and into (a) a chair in the shower, and (b) over the float tank door threshold, which is 18 inches off the floor and approximately three feet wide.

If you do not have good upper body mobility/strength, you are, of course, more than welcome to have helpers come in with you and help you in and out of the shower and float tank. We have a comfortable lounge area for assistants to hang out in while you float. This would likely be best with two helpers, one who steps into the float tank with you (there’s lots of room), holding your upper body, and a second person helping guide your legs through the door. Unfortunately our staff are not allowed to assist in this process.

Another area worth mentioning is that in order to use our float tanks, you must have full control over bodily function. Unfortunately, those with unpredictable intestinal or urinary function should not float, as this poses a risk to the quality of the water, and therefore safety of others. Any damage to the water in our float tanks from using them with a known incontinence issue will unfortunately result in a rather large bill for 2,000+ lbs of Epsom salts
