Cryotherapy

What is Cryotherapy?

Full-body Cryotherapy (FBC) is the therapeutic use of freezing dry air to stimulate the body’s natural healing response. By activating the circulatory and nervous systems, it may help reduce inflammation, support recovery, and improve overall wellness. Treatments are quick, comfortable, and results vary by individual.

The Best Quality

Not all cryotherapy is created equal. That’s why we chose the industry-leading, German-built MECOTEC electric cryotherapy chamber. Using oxygen-enriched air instead of liquid nitrogen, it delivers safe, consistent, full-body cooling with an outstanding safety record of over 500,000 treatments and zero reported incidents.

Benefits of Cryotherapy

  • Reduce Inflammation – Cold exposure helps calm the body’s inflammatory response, supporting recovery and overall wellness.
  • Speed Recovery – Helps reduce muscle soreness and supports faster recovery after exercise or everyday activity.
  • Boost Energy – Many guests report feeling refreshed, recharged, and more energized after a session.
  • Enhance Well-Being – The cold stimulates a natural release of endorphins, which may help elevate mood and promote an overall sense of well-being.

Totally Tan & Spa Cryotherapy FAQs

No appointment is necessary, as our quick 3-minute sessions means minimal wait times for Cryotherapy. Come in today to start ‘chilling’ with us!
The benefits of a three-minute full-body Cryotherapy treatment are equivalent to those of a twenty- to thirty-minute ice bath. Unlike an ice bath, Cryotherapy does not involve downtime.
Yes, it is cold, but because the air contains no moisture, the process never freezes skin tissues, muscles, or organs. You will feel chilled but not uncomfortably cold.  Like dry heat, the cold feels very different than you think. Most guests report feeling great immediately after their treatment.
Cryotherapy is a dry cold with no moisture and tolerable even to those who consider themselves cold intolerant. Cryotherapy improves circulation throughout the body and stimulates the production of brown fat, so your future ability to tolerate cold should improve.
No. The immediate cold impact of Cryotherapy will raise the internal body temperature for a short period and stimulate your immune system. Boosting the immune system can help decrease the severity and frequency of future colds.
A full-body Cryotherapy treatment lasts three minutes; however, you may end the session anytime.

The peak benefits of full-body Cryotherapy are best enjoyed as a result of a regular routine. While guests will experience benefits from a single treatment, we recommend doing Cryotherapy three to five times a week for the first two weeks. This will induce cumulative effects in the body. After that, maintenance as needed to sustain benefits.

The following conditions are contraindications to Cryotherapy:
  • Pregnancy
  • Heart disease
  • Untreated or elevated blood pressure (blood pressure above 180/95 mmHg)
  • Cold-activated asthma
  • Severe Raynaud’s syndrome

12 and older. People ages 12 and older may use Cryotherapy, however we ask that all people younger than 16 always have a parental guardian on site. Ages 12-17 need parental consent.

At Totally Tan & Spa, guests are provided with:
  • Headband
  • Face mask (optional)
  • Gloves
  • Dry socks
  • Slippers
To protect their extremities during treatment. All guests must remove all jewelry and exterior body piercings. If you have piercings that cannot be removed, please cover them with cotton gauze and a band-aid. Guests should refrain from applying oils, lotions, or cologne before treatment.

No, we ask that there be no excess moisture on the face. Cryotherapy can be applied directly over makeup and will not affect your hair at all. It is preferable to have no makeup on, but if that’s not possible, any moisture needs to be fully absorbed.

Showering is not necessary before or after Cryotherapy. The entire procedure is dry and does not make your skin wet. Many guests come by during their lunch break since the entire treatment is only 3 minutes long.

Yes! Many guests enjoy combining these services on the same day. We recommend waiting at least 30 minutes between your Infrared Pro Pod session and Cryotherapy to give your body time to adjust after each extreme temperature exposure. During that break, a Red Light Therapy or Full-Body Massage session is a great option, as it allows your body to transition more comfortably before your next treatment.

This approach helps maximize comfort while allowing you to enjoy the unique benefits of both hot and cold therapies in the same visit.
